It’s Rainforest Alliance Week – September 19-23, 2011 – Follow the Frog!
Because we love coffee, we have a passion for maintaining a thriving world coffee community, and we understand the importance of procuring agriculturally sustainable coffees certified by the Rain Forest Alliance. We want our coffees to reflect our values by enhancing the lives of others and preserving the environment.
That’s why we’re pointing out the frog. Maybe you’ve seen the little green guy on packaging but aren’t really sure what it stands for. Since 1990, the Rainforest Alliance has been transforming tropical agriculture and now certifies over 100 types of crops, including coffee, cocoa, tea, sugarcane, flower and fruit. More than 2 million people, including farmers, farm workers and their families benefit directly from Rainforest Alliance certification, as certified farms provide a better future for people while conserving nature and protecting wildlife.
The Rainforest Alliance has worked within the communities and with experts in science, agriculture and the environment to develop farm-management guidelines that maintain important traditions and eco-friendly practices, while maintaining a growing awareness of social responsibility and ensuring economic sustainability.
Rainforest Alliance Week was created to bring awareness to the brands and products that support the mission of the Alliance, and to let consumers know that by purchasing goods showing that little green frog, you are making a difference in the world. So, the next time you are shopping, just follow the frog! Learn more about how the Rainforest Alliance is supporting a brighter future for people and the planet at www.rainforest-alliance.org.
Latte Throwdown May 21st-Coffee Reserve Proud Sponsor
Daniel Suh just emailed Arizona Coffee information about an upcoming latte art throwdown:
Mama Javas Coffee will be hosting a latte throwdown on Saturday, May 21st at 6 pm. The competition will consist of two rounds with the best scores moving on to the next round. In the first round, each competitor will have approximately 3 mins to produce a 10 oz latte. Competitors are allowed to make as many drinks within that time limit but only one will be submitted for evaluation. In the second round, competitors will only have one chance to produce a 6 oz cappuccino for evaluation in a head-to-head playoff format.
Throughout the competition, we will be featuring a coffee education opportunity with a hands-on demonstration of an espresso machine. As we demonstrate the machine, we will offer sample tastings of espresso shots as they develop during the pour. The coffee education, sample tastings, and competitor lattes/cappuccinos will be free to sample for anyone in attendance and the latte art competition will be free to watch.
The competition fee for baristas is $3 for early registration by RSVPing at info@petitepour.com or $5 at the door. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 competitors. Also, we are especially encouraging first time competitors to compete and will have a prize for the highest scoring first time competitor in round 1.
Anyone with any questions should send an e-mail to info@petitepour.com. Special thanks to our sponsors and host: Mama Javas Coffee, Petite Pour, Echo Coffee, Cortez Coffee, Cartel Coffee Lab, Caffe D’Arte, Kaleidoscope Coffee, Passport Coffee & Tea, and Coffee Reserve.

Aida Batlle El Salvador Coffee Coming to Coffee Reserve Soon!
In about a month, Coffee Reserve will have two incredible El Salvador coffees from renowned coffee producer, Aida Batlle. The Coffee Reserve team was able to meet Aida on our latest buying trip to El Salvador and we were impressed by the dedication to quality that makes her coffee production so distinctive. Coffee Reserve is excited to begin roasting 2 coffees from Aida Batlle’s selection. One micro-lot is a Alicia that is processed in the traditional washed method. Our initial cupping, at the mill, showed such clean, crisp and complex flavors, we had to have some. The other micro-lot is a Natural or unwashed method, employing no water in the precessing of the coffee cherry. The flavor profile was incredible with layers of apricot, brandy, lemon grass and a host of other flavors. Coffee Reserve is proud to offer coffees of such exceptional quality and to support innovative coffee growers like Aida.
